As I write this post, it has been 110 days—nearly four months!—since I’ve gone shopping. Nary an item as crossed my e-cart since the start of the year, and I’ve pretty happily been mining my closet for new(ish) things to wear rather than going out and buying something new.
I can’t shop for the next 284 days, but that doesn’t mean you can’t! One of my absolute favorite places to buy pretty frocks, ASOS, is currently having a 20% off dresses sale, so I spent last night combing through all 35 pages of marked-down styles so you don’t have to. Mark my words: now is the time to stock up on dresses you’ll need for the vacations and weddings that are sure to populate your calendar come summer.
I’ve had a crush on tulle since my days as a prepubescent ballerina, and if anything, my feelings on the material have only deepened in the intervening years. However, never has the diaphanous fabric felt so fresh and so fashionable as it does in the hands of Molly Goddard. This visionary Central Saint Martins-taught designer first revealed the modernity of tulle to me with her Spring 2016 collection, and ever since then I’ve been spotting yards of the brightly colored stuff sashaying down runways from Gucci to Dior (and strutting conspicuously down sidewalks on the likes of Rihanna).
I spend every day from 9 to 5 keyboard deep in the Nordstrom website, which means that a side effect of my job is an intimate knowledge with our current offerings. In the past, I used this knowledge to score some seriously good deals for myself (hello, amazing Trina Turk teddy bear coat for like 1000% off), but since I’ve vowed not to shop for all of 2017, I’ve decided to periodically pass along my knowledge to you, my dear readers, who can actually use it.
We laughed at James Corden tumbling down the stairs, we cried when Adele pledged her eternal devotion to Beyoncé and we collectively swooned as the cameras panned down to Blue Ivy dancing in the front row dressed in head-to-toe Gucci. Sure, the red carpet gowns were stunning, but Blue’s bubblegum pink tuxedo topped with a velvet hair bow and a much-talked about minaudière stole the whole dang show and sent me straight to my keyboard to try to recreate the look tout suite.
