First thing’s first. You’ll notice nary a khaki pant in sight. That’s because the freshest way to wear one of this season’s freshest trends is all about using a classic fabrication in an unexpectedly cool way. Now, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t rock a khaki pant—in fact, this pair, this pair and this pair are all calling my name—I’m just saying that khaki has found a comfortable home as beyond the bounds of school uniform chinos and the Jim Harbaugh aesthetic.
The new khakis are all about intentional silhouettes, softened with a bit of playful detail—a draped ruffle here, a trim of rickrack there. Or, if you’re feeling really brave, a polka-dotted tulle underskirt layered beneath a head-to-toe khaki look a la J.Crew Spring 17. Perhaps you’re only ready to dip your Sand Tropez-clad toes into this trend pond, and in that case might I suggest some folksy seed-beaded earrings, a whispy bandana-inspired scarf or a fresh pair of Nikes? The wonderful thing about khaki is that its beauty is derived from its utilitarian versatility. In other words: it matches with everything.
