Feeling Blue

I’ve been feeling blue lately—strictly sartorially speaking, of course. I just can’t seem to get enough of shades of cerulean, sky, robin’s egg, cobalt, indigo and baby blue. Maybe it’s the promise of regular glimpses of clear skies once spring has finally sprung, or maybe it’s a subconscious effort to salve my spirit in these hair-pullingingly frustrating political times by hearkening back to one of last year’s Pantone Colors of the Year, aptly named Serenity. I’ve always been a jewelry girl. When I was young, I spent hours after school and during the summer crafting necklaces and bracelets from a rainbow-hued assortment of seed beads and crystals I kept meticulously organized in plastic tackle boxes. I toted my boxes with me from my mom’s house to my dad’s house and back again every other weekend. I think at one point I was making and selling jewelry to my friends at school. I’ve just always found a sparkling ring or color-pop earring to be the best, and often most economical way, to add my own personality to a look.

I still make myself jewelry sometimes (like these earrings and this bracelet), but I also love stocking up on fun pieces from BaubleBar. This post isn’t sponsored in any way; I’ve just been a fan and customer of the brand since 2013 and I always love talking about how great their pieces are, especially for the price. These shoulder-dusting cobalt tassel earrings are the newest addition to my jewelry box, and I love how much they move when I wear them! I like to wear my hair up in a crown braid when I wear these babies so they can really shine.

BaubleBar is currently having their big semi-annual sale with up to 75% off a bunch of pretty styles. I already purchased these earrings and this ring, and you can shop some of my other favorite sale pieces here:

Ladylike Lace

We’re almost half-way through May, which means that we’ve officially started the countdown to wedding season. Not only will my little sister be getting married this summer (!!!), but I’ll be attending a smattering of other nuptials over the next few months.

Dancing, toasting, catching up with old friends, witnessing romance at its finest—I love pretty much everything about weddings. I also love that it gives me an (all too infrequent) excuse to dress up. It’s never fun to run around last-minute looking for something to wear to a wedding, so when I saw this little lace number at Forever 21, I immediately decided to add it to my cocktail attire stockpile.

You know how sometimes you take a whole heap of things into the dressing room, debate the fit and functionality of each item and walk out with maybe one or two things that you’re still not even sure you should buy? This dress was not like that. I saw it on a rack across the room and knew right away it would be coming home with me. The rich navy color, the flattering fit, the scalloped lace detail on the sleeves and hem—everything added up to one chic (and expensive-looking) dress. Piled on pearls and comfortable nude dancin’ shoes are just the icing on the wedding cake.
