As I mentioned before, my mom, sisters, brother-in-law and niece all found their way up to the PNW to spend Christmas with my brother and I. After couple of days in Seattle, we took a ferry up to the Great White North in pursuit of cozy fires and plenty of snow. Continue Reading

Snowy Sunday

Last Sunday, we woke up to birds chirping and a dreamy dusting of snow, so we shrugged on our coats and headed off to brunch. Two new breakfast spots have opened up in town over the past few months, effectively doubling our brunching options. Hooray!

We decided to check out Pullman, an upscale diner with an open kitchen and some beautiful red leather banquets. One bloody Mary, a bowl of cheesy grits and some delicious house-cured bacon later, we headed home via College Green and the scene was just too pretty not to snap some pictures. Next up on the brunch tour: Ride.

Well, it finally happened. The weather I’ve been warned about since moving to Iowa has arrived. After a light dusting last week, we got a good few inches of snow over the weekend, sending me straight to my closet for my coziest knits.

Thankfully, a Nordstrom Rack just opened up in Des Moines, so I managed to stock up on a few winter items like this pea coat and neon raglan sweater. And while I’m still lacking key essentials like proper snow boots and a jacket for when it gets truly cold (hello -35 degrees), I think this is a pretty good start. There’s something about wearing bright colors on gray days that makes me feel happy and warm—and I suppose the vanilla latte helped, too.
