“Rust and Cognac.” No, that’s not the name of my new down-and-dirty Southern DIY blog (although it could be), it’s just a deliciously warm color combo that I’m particularly loving right now.

A kimono is perfect for throwing on in the morning when it’s too hot outside to wear anything constricting and you basically want to feel like you’re wearing pajamas all day. Even better? When said kimono comes in a rich, saturated shade of rust that perfectly complements your new ginger-ish hair color. Win-win.

And now we come to this beautiful bag. Maybe the most perfect crossbody bag ever created. Certainly my current favorite. The Willis is one of Coach’s enduring classics and is crafted from the richest, softest leather. I love the top bar with a handle that comes in handy surprisingly often, and I love the classic gold turnlock closure. It’s no wonder they’ve brought this style back again and again.

With the start of summer finally in sight, it’s time to start thinking about sunglasses. For the past year, I’ve worn the Prada cat eye sunnies pictured above almost exclusively. And don’t get me wrong, I’ve been very happy with them. But lately I’ve been craving a bit of variety in my sunglasses selection. Since I already have a nice pair of standbys, I’m not quite willing to shell out for five new pairs of pricey shades.

Luckily, on a recent trip to Vancouver, I found some Karen Walker Super Duper Strength lookalikes that have hardly left my face since. That great find inspired this collection of sunnies that take serious (and stylish!) cues from designer shades.

Seeing in Color

blue-sunnies4My favorite summer accessories, hands down, are sunglasses. And while the rest of the fashion world may be putting on their plaid and pulling up their boots in preparation for fall, I’m enjoying the start of San Francisco’s Indian summer. Meaning it’s the perfect time to talk about my favorite new eyewear.

I’ve had my eye on a bright blue version of these Madewell Hepcat Shades for quite some time, so when I stumbled across these practically identical Forever 21 sunnies for all of $6, I almost bought them in all three colors. Retro frame? Check. Reflective lenses? Check. Perfect powder blue hue? Check!

It turns out that I’ve been so subconsciously drawn to this fresh color that almost everything I’ve recently purchased seems to match my new sunglasses. I love wearing them with this ladylike Lush frock, and they also look great poolside when worn with my—you guessed it—blue and white bikini. Plus they look really cute on my pup!blue-sunniesblue-sunnies7blue-sunnies2blue-sunnies6blue-sunnies5
