As I’ve mentioned before, it’s hard for me to find hats that fit my extra-large head. But on a recent trip to Forever 21, I had a bit of a Cinderella moment with the lovely wool fedora pictured above. Picture this: I’m waiting in a long line to check out. I’m browsing the displays near the registers and notice a lone abandoned hat. I absently try on said hat. The second I put it on, I knew it fit perfectly. A quick glance in the mirror confirmed that it would indeed be coming home with me.

I love how structured the hat is, and I love the way it effortlessly combines black and navy. I decided to carry that color scheme throughout this errand-running outfit that—thanks to serious statement jewelry and a bit of faux fur—feels as luxurious as it is comfortable. Another of my recent accessory obsessions? These new BaubleBar eyelash ear jackets. I love that they add a unique wink to every outfit I wear, no matter the style.

Well, it finally happened. The weather I’ve been warned about since moving to Iowa has arrived. After a light dusting last week, we got a good few inches of snow over the weekend, sending me straight to my closet for my coziest knits.

Thankfully, a Nordstrom Rack just opened up in Des Moines, so I managed to stock up on a few winter items like this pea coat and neon raglan sweater. And while I’m still lacking key essentials like proper snow boots and a jacket for when it gets truly cold (hello -35 degrees), I think this is a pretty good start. There’s something about wearing bright colors on gray days that makes me feel happy and warm—and I suppose the vanilla latte helped, too.
