You know that phenomenon that occurs when you notice one instance of a particular thing, and from then on out, you start seeing it everywhere? Well, I’ve been full-on bug crazy ever since I spotted delicately embroidered bees atop the puffed mesh sleeve at the Chanel Spring 2016 couture show. Since botanical prints have been top-of-mind for a few seasons now, it’s only logical that pretty little bug embellishments start to inhabit this sartorial habitat.
From crystal-encrusted ladybugs at Gucci to butterfly embroidery at McQueen and emerald winged beetles at Zac Posen, it’s become clear that insect embellishment is about to generate a lot of buzz. I predict that in a few short seasons, we’ll see a swarm of exquisite creepy crawlies gracing the newest offerings from our favorite fast-fashion retailers. In the meantime, we can all just sit back, relax and witness the birth of a trend.
